Saturday morning was a beautiful day with the looming afternoon forecast of rain. Welcome to Savannah in April — unpredictable weather and brides scurrying around all over downtown. It’s crazy to shoot on a day like Saturday because people are checking the forecast and worrying over the weather, but at the same time, the clouds make for dramatic photos and gorgeous filtered light. All in all, the weather cooperated for us though and let us make really gorgeous portraits for Lisanne and David that showcase their day as it unfolded.

When I arrived Lisanne had taken care to hang her beautiful dress in the front window. It was gorgeous with clean lines and simplistic details that allowed her beauty to be showcased. Just exactly as I had pictured her dress being.

Lisanne’s older sister was doing her makeup while her bridesmaids were coming in and out of the room getting sashes tied and family enjoying some lunch before the big day began.

A last look before heading over to the Cathedral and slipping in the dress and adding a final detail.

For the second weekend in a row, I got to work with the ladies from Colony Bay Flowers. They do amazing work and this weekend was no exception.

One of the details I love about my job is working with historic architecture. As many people know, before becoming a wedding photographer I worked in places like New Orleans and Charleston to document historic buildings for the National Park Service. I love letting that influence carry over but get to stretch my creative side a whole lot more.

After the ceremony and some family pictures in the church, the bridal party loaded into a trolley and headed over to Forsyth Park. The azalea flowers were all gone but the trees were blooming and the glory of the park was in full swing.

It’s really hard being cuddly and romantic when the trolleys are coming by screaming, whistling and honking! You can’t help but laugh though.

After almost getting rained on at the Park, we headed over to Ships of the Sea for the reception. To see some of the fun that was had you’ll have to check out the slideshow. Two parting shots to show you what a sweet couple Lisanne and David are and what an awesome, party they threw for family and friends.

I just wanted to put up a quick note to let everyone know that I am out of the office until Monday, 4/14/08 while I am traveling back down to my home town and uber beautiful, gawd I miss those azaleas but not the pine tree pollen, Savannah to photograph Lisanne and David’s wedding. I’m going to be on the road quite a bit in the next few months so here is a quick schedule to let you know if you can reach me. Don’t worry, you can still email us at info@diananashphotography.com but I’ll be a little slow in responding. Good news is I have an amazing new Operations Manager (more about that later) who’s going to help me out with staying organized and keeping in touch when I travel!

I’ve always offered event cards for the reception that tell you how and where to view the proofs online. Gregory Cross | Gone but not forgotten

I got some sad news today that my good friend, Gregory Cross has passed away. I first met Gregory when I moved back to Savannah and we were both active members of Young Professionals of Savannah. He was always a warm, thoughtful, and kind gentleman who went out of his way to help you smile. Later, our professional lives crossed many times working together at Savannah area weddings where he was most known as Crosstown DJ. Gregory will be missed very much. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I have to admit I’ve been pretty guilty about neglecting the BLOG this winter. I’ve got a BEAUTIFUL new one being cooked up right now and that makes it so hard to keep blogging here.

In the meantime, I hope I can catch up with everything that has been going on… including Liz and Tony’s gorgeous engagement session in Beaufort, SC from February. It was a perfect day to be outside along the waterfront. We started at the Rhett House where the reception will be held. It’s a gorgeous antebellum plantation home that is now operated as a Historic Inn within walking distance of downtown Beaufort and the waterfront.

I was so excited last month when I got their wedding invitation in the mail. Liz had emailed me about turning one of her favorite pictures into a postage stamp for the invites. I LOVE IT!!!!

Katy + Bert | 3.29.08

It was a great weekend as it seems like the Wedding Season officially made its debut! I had so many wonderful requests for this day but inevitably I ended up spending it with Katherine and Bert in Savannah. I can’t think of a better couple or a better place to have kicked off 2008.

Saturday afternoon started out gorgeous with a light overcast. Just after finishing some pre-pictures with Katy and her girls, the wind really picked up and it got COLD! Okay, cold for us subtropical Savannahians. Seriously, there was a good 20 degree temperature shift. Everything was gorgeous and family and friends helped make this a magical day for Katy and Bert.

Congrats Katy and Bert! Have a great trip to Mexico.

Congrats Mandy + Brad!

I’m terribly past due on blogging so I’m going to try to just just back in and catch up. Back at the beginning of October, I photographed Brad and Mandy’s gorgeous Forsyth Park wedding. Caroline of Events by Caroline planned the event and everything was stunning as always. Mandy brought a copy of her Save The Date card which she used a picture from her engagement session on the cover. I loved the photograph and the design. This really captured the essence of the day Mandy planned.

For the wedding day, my friend Amy Martin from Charlotte, NC came down to help me photograph. She an amazing photographer with such an eye for to die for detail shots. Thanks again Amy. Yes, you RAWK (even if you shoot with a Canon … I’ll forgive you for going to the dark side). Well, its really exciting to work alongside another photographer like Amy. I did rain early in the day/afternoon so we shifted to shooting as much our pictures indoors at the Mansion on Forsyth Park (where Mandy was getting ready). We were blessed with a corner room with great window light so we kept things looking natural and finding so dramatic light to create some amazing portraits.

The sun started peeking out just before the ceremony so we hustled into the humidity and made tried to make up for lost time.

The ceremony was held at Wesley Monumental in downtown Savannah.

Shannon + Todd

On September 15th Shannon and Todd gathered their families in Savannah for their destination wedding. Tucked away in a traditional neighborhood, Ardsley Park, First Presbyterian Church is an amazingly beautiful stacked Tennessean sandstone church with magnificent Gothic arches built in the 1920s. Within the magnificence, Shannon and Todd opened their hearts to each other in a beautiful ceremony. As the sunset, the couple made a surprise stop at Forsyth Park before dancing the night away at the Marshall House on Broughton Street.

I dont want to forget their other wedding vendors who did an amazing job as well. The ladies at B Street Salon made everyone look fabulous. The Marshall House was their venue and had an incredibly helpful staff. The ladies at Kiwi Fleur designed the amazingly colorful florals. Minette Rushing of Custom Cakes made the gorgeous cakes. The Vols/Gators cake has to be one of my all time favorite grooms cake and was a fitting tribute to a Tennessee girl marrying a Florida boy!!! And of course, I can’t forget my friend Greg Cross from Crosstown DJ for keeping the party rockin!

I placed 13th but I’m still really excited that I placed in the portrait category of the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association second quarter competition. It’s tough to place period, but especially in this category. Make sure you check out the complete list of international award winners.

Shelley and Thomas

Back in June I was fortunate enough to travel to Atlanta to photograph Shelley and Thomas’ wedding. The ceremony was at the Peachtree Presbyterian Church followed by an elegant ballroom reception following at the amazing Imperial Ballroom of the Atlanta Biltmore. Shelley had gorgeous hydrangea and rose flowers and monograms everywhere. Thomas had a spectacular sailboat groom’s cake. Thomas’ Dad drove the couple off in his beautiful vintage Mercedes Benz convertible.
